Gran Turismo Sport Unboxing

Post by Waddy » Wed Apr 05, 2017 3:36 pm

This shows the very first time I ran GTS, opening video and first race. Man, it was exciting. More videos and tips later.

Thanks a lot for sharing, Brian :D ! Great video, very informative. Nice of you to take your time so that we can study the menus and watch the cinematic. Clean drive at Brands Hatch 8-) . You lucky man!

I have a couple of online races to put up tomorrow. They seem a bit cleaner than the old Quick Match races but not much. It's hard to describe it to anyone who doesn't have a PS4 and PCars or AC. Those are the current standards by which we judge other games, the benchmarks, if you know what I mean. GTS isn't much different from GT6. Graphics aren't much different, cars handle a bit better but there isn't a night and day difference like there is with PCars. I'll know more as time goes by though. Lucky? Yes, I think I am. I hope everyone here gets to be just as lucky.

Sure, even if I can only imagine :D . What would you say after a few hours? Is GTS as good as PCars and AC? Better? Hard to say until you have tested the complete game?

AC is a bust, in my opinion. I haven't used it in weeks. Sven and I tried a lobby together but it wasn't fun. Their idea of fun seems to come from endless DLCs. I don't know what percentage of cars are DLCS but it seems a lot of them are. All the Porsches, for instance. Also, not many tracks. Endless variations of Nurburgring though. :?

PCars is the most fun for me and my crew. It has everything we want in a sim. The cars are pretty good right out of the box and Laurent's tunes are perfect for the ones he's done. There are other tunes out there but you're never sure what you're going to get. The game has had a long life, that's for sure.

GTS isn't complete so I'm not sure what is missing yet. There are only four views in the cars I have. The sound is OK, changes with the inside and follow cam view but the rest are the same. No rearview mirror that I could find in the hood view. That's the view I use on tracks I don't know, Tokyo right now.

AI on Intermediate is tough and they will PIT you but they also seem to leave the chase once you're ahead, same as in GT6. In PCars they'll chase you right to the finish line.

Tokyo track is simply BORING. Walls, no scenery, no great shots of buildings or shops like the one in GT6. I have no idea why they wasted time and money on it. It doesn't show Tokyo at all, it looks like any expressway anywhere in the world. The Special Stage in GT6 was more fun to drive, in my opinion.

My wheel feels tighter, more resistance than in GT6. The cars are quite predictable. They seem to drive like real cars, by that I mean your normal sedan instead of a race car. With PCars, it's the opposite. Sedans drive terribly but race cars drive like real race cars, at least the way I imagine they would. There are rattles, shakes, torque when the turbo cuts in, understeer, oversteer, heavy, heavy brakes, etc. It's work to drive a GT3 in a 20 minute race complete with sweat and lots of groans and bad words. In GTS, it feels like a smooth summer drive.

I only have two racing cars, I think. You start out with three and I 'won' the Genesis race car. It's fast and smooth. I guess the smooth bugs me because in PCars, none of the race cars are smooth. They're really fun to drive but not smooth like the Genesis. Again, it's all my opinion. I'll learn more every day. You have to drive 26 miles a day to unlock a new car. I've missed a lot, I guess.

Here's what came to my mind when I wrote '26 miles'. I swear I have a song for every occasion.

I know the feeling well. There have been many grrrrr moments in the last few weeks as I watched the videos and read the reports. I almost wrote to you yesterday about the situation in SA. I hope things change soon.

Pierre, your sim-racing world might become bigger and more colourful on the PS4. I´m pretty sure about that. Gran turismo is a nice racing game that I enjoyed since GT1. But there´s so much more to discover. :P
